ProfitWell's index now lives on Paddle's site, not its own

The ProfitWell B2B SaaS Index still tracks 34,000-plus companies on ProfitWell Metrics, but Paddle now publishes and hosts the reports.

The record

ProfitWell built a subscription-analytics product and a related revenue index before Paddle acquired it; as retrieved on 16 September 2026, the index and its research are published from Paddle's own domain under the retained ProfitWell brand. A report dated 19 September 2023 states that 'the ProfitWell B2B SaaS Index tracks the cumulative Monthly Recurring Revenue from a sample of the 34,000+ companies on ProfitWell Metrics' and reports an annualized growth rate of 5.9% for July 2023 and 7.6% for August 2023. A later report dated 30 April 2025 covering the first quarter of 2025 uses the same 34,000-plus-company base and reports a February compound annual growth rate of negative 0.1% and a March rate of 3.1% for B2B respondents, alongside a separate, lower-growth B2C segment.

What the documents establish

Both reports name their own sample explicitly: companies that use the ProfitWell Metrics product to track subscription revenue, not a market-wide panel. Neither report, as retrieved, states the date Paddle's acquisition of ProfitWell closed, but both are hosted at paddle.com and link onward to a page branded 'ProfitWell Metrics' as a Paddle offering, which is the sourcing detail worth carrying forward: the analytics product and its brand persisted after the deal even as the publishing home changed. The two reports also show why one year's index reading cannot be compared casually to another's: the underlying company panel updates over time as businesses join, leave, or change size within ProfitWell Metrics, so a swing from 7.6% growth in August 2023 to roughly flat growth in February 2025 reflects a different, evolving population as much as it reflects the broader market.

The operating read

Editorially, an index built from one vendor's own customer base is best read as a trend line for that vendor's population rather than a precise market growth rate, and its main value is consistency of method across dates rather than any single reading. A founder citing the ProfitWell index to a board should say which month's edition is being used and note that the panel composition, not only the market, can move the number between editions.

What to check before you decide

Before using a ProfitWell or Paddle figure, check the following.

  • Which edition and month is the figure drawn from, and is a stale figure being presented as current?
  • Is the figure a B2B or B2C reading, since the two segments moved differently in both reports?
  • Does the report state whether the underlying company panel changed in a way that could shift the reading independent of the market?

The index is a genuine, dated data feed from a large subscription-analytics base, and it is most defensible when cited by its exact edition rather than as a general 'SaaS growth is X percent' claim.
